Production of Season 3 of CMT’s “Gone Country” is underway and an American Idol alum is part of the cast to attempt to sing country. And I must say, my first impressions of Justin Guarini, is that he might be able to pull it off!
For those that don’t know who Justin Guarini is, he was runner up on American Idol Season 1 and got beat out by Kelly Clarkson.
For those that have never seen an episode of “Gone Country” They basically take D list celebrities and try to prep them to be a country singer. It’s kind of like “American Idol” country style. The winner gets their country song played on the radio and a bunch of other perks.
Which personally, I think doesn’t work out because most country singers seem like they are born singing country, or started singing country music first off. Unless your Jessica Simpson, you can’t just jump into country music, and even then, I’m not really into the Country’fied Jessica Simpson.
The cast will include:
- George Clinton (a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member who is a founder of the bands Parliament and Funkadelic)
- Tara Conner (a television personality who was named Miss USA 2006)
- Taylor Dayne (an actress and pop vocalist known for the hits “Tell It to My Heart,” “I’ll Always Love You” and “Love Will Lead You Back”)
- Micky Dolenz (an actor and musician who was drummer and lead vocalist of the Monkees)
- Sheila E. (a philanthropist, entertainer and musician who has worked extensively with Prince and Ringo Starr)
- Richard Grieco (an actor and musician whose TV and film credits include 21 Jump Street and A Night at the Roxbury)
- Justin Guarini (singer, songwriter, actor and television host who was a runner-up in the first season of American Idol).
Season 3 of “Gone Country” premieres in January.

Taylor Dayne would be awesome, she’s got that deep Jennifer Nettles-like voice so she’d saaaaaaang the hell out of some country.
I never understood why Justin didn’t go further than he did. I loved him on American Idol and had him pegged to win. Then again, as Simon always says, it’s all about the song choice.
The sings Kelly sang AFTER Idol were better than the ones she sang ON Idol.
The songs Justin sang ON Idol were better than what he sang AFTER.
Oh well. At least David Cook has a CD coming out soon (-:
